Women's Lacrosse Announces 2017 Captains
November 9, 2016 | Women's Lacrosse
BOSTON - Seniors Taylor Hardison, Janelle Macone and Charlotte Castronovo were named captains of the 2017 Boston University women's lacrosse team, head coach Liz Robertshaw announced on Wednesday.
"We had seven players from multiple classes receive votes for captain from their teammates and staff this week; out of 26 players that's a good number of leaders and that makes me excited about the work we've done here in the program with these women in regards to their leadership skills," Robertshaw said. "Ultimately, three players - Charlotte, Taylor and Janelle - separated themselves amongst their peers and will represent the 2017 Terriers as team captains."
All three Terriers are enrolled in the Questrom School of Business and have shown continued success both on and off the field. Castronovo has started every game over the past two years and has become one of the tea's defensive leaders. Last season she caused 12 turnovers, collected 16 ground balls and also added a goal and an assist. She is the president of BU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committtee and has been instrumental in community services initiatives from both the women's lacrosse team and the student-athlete body as a whole.
Hardison, a crease attacker, led the Terriers with 36 assists in 2016 and was 10th in the nation with an average of 2.0 assists per game. She also scored six goals and was an Academic All-Patriot League and IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selection for the second straight year. In addition to her offensive output, she also contributed in other areas of the game. Hardison picked up 15 groundballs, caused five turnovers and collected four draw controls.
Macone, also a defender, earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Second Team last year. She started all 18 games, securing 11 ground balls, causing 14 turnovers and also winning eight draw controls. Like Hardison, Macone was also recognized for her strong work in the classroom as an Academic All-Patriot League and IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selection for a second consecutive year.
"Charlotte, Taylor and Janelle have each demonstrated the traits we hold important within the program - consistent hard work, commitment to excellence on and off the field, selflessness in their behavior and appreciation for the opportunity to be a student-athlete here at Boston University," Robertshaw said. "I know they will work tirelessly with their fellow teammates to uphold the traditions of the program while guiding this team to success in the 2017 season."
