BOSTON - A dominant, start-to-finish performance by the Boston University women's lacrosse team gave the Terriers a 17-7 victory over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon on Nickerson Field to remain unbeaten in Patriot League games this season.
BU (3-4, 2-0 PL) was led by Jill Horka, who dominated in every role, leading the team with three goals, four caused turnovers and three draw controls. In total, six different Terriers scored multiple goals on the day including Kaitlin Belval, Sarah Andersen and Molly Kern who each reached a career-high with two apiece.
Taylor Hardison had her second-straight four-assist game. She has 17 assists already the season and is on track to rival the BU season assist record, which currently stands at 46.
All 26 players on the roster saw action against Bucknell, including freshmen Ellie McKinnon, Catherine McAuley and Maddie Curley, who all made their first career appearance in the Scarlet and White.
After a tough day from the eight-meter line against No. 19/20 Johns Hopkins last week, the Terriers regrouped and went an impressive 4-of-5 on free position shots against the Bison. The Terriers also caused a season-high 14 turnovers and out-shot Bucknell by an astonishing margin, 40-20.
The Terriers were also nearly perfect on clearing attempts, successfully taking it into their offensive end 16 out of 17 tries. The Bison were not as successful, going 14-of-22 on clears.
BU began the game on a four-goal run to jump out to a 4-0 lead which the Bison would never bounce back from. The Bison only managed to score twice throughout the first half, allowing the Terriers to take a 9-2 lead by halftime.
Though Bucknell scored the first goal of the second half off of a free position shot, the Terriers did not allow their momentum to be lost and it took less than 10 minutes for BU to reach a running clock with a 10-goal lead, 12-4.
Bucknell made an attempt to cut into the Terrier lead late in the game but BU's advantage was steadfast and Boston University came away with its second conference victory of the season.
BU is back in action on Tuesday when the Terriers stay home for a game against Vanderbilt at 1:30 p.m. on Nickerson Field. The game will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
