CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Five members of the Boston University women's lacrosse team earned spots on the All-Patriot League Teams, the conference announced on Monday afternoon. Midfielder Jill Horka was voted to the first team while attacker Mallory Collins, midfielder Ally Adams, defender Janelle Macone and goalkeeper Caroline Meegan earned spots on the second team.
"I'm excited that Jill, Ally, Mallory, Janelle and Caroline have all been named to all-conference teams!" head coach Liz Robertshaw said. "To be represented by five players, including one at every position on the field, tells me we have created a balanced team that is playing well together. I know every one of those players would give up the individual award for the team's success, but in the same light it's good to see that solid play throughout the season has allowed them to be recognized."
For the third-straight season, Horka earned a spot on the All-Patriot League First Team. She made her mark in the midfield this season, setting the new Boston University career draw control record before re-setting the BU season standard, which she previously broke last season. The senior has 215 draw controls and counting so far in her career and 70 this season. The Westborough, Mass. native has totaled 14 goals and seven assists so far this year and has dominated the hustle stats, totaling a team-high 27 caused turnovers, which ranks third in the conference, and 26 ground balls. Horka has been on an all-conference team in all four of her years wearing the Scarlet and White.
Collins was also named to the preseason All-Patriot League team and lived up to expectations throughout the season as she now leads the team in goals and points, finding the back of the net 32 times this season, including two game-winners, and totaling 38 points. She is also an important part of the draw control unit, giving teams a different look from Horka and winning 23 so far this year.
Another midfielder, Adams, made the second team while having one of the best offensive seasons of her career. Currently with 37 points, She has totaled 27 goals and 10 assists while grabbing 29 draw controls. She has a knack for scoring big goals and grabbing crucial draw controls to create momentum for the Terriers. This is the first time she has been named to an all-conference list in her career.
Meegan earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Second Team for the second time this season, one of just two goalkeepers named to the conference's year-end honors. She leads the league in saves per game, averaging 9.62, and ranks second in save percentage (.517). The junior was injured at the end of the first game of the season and battled back to play the final 12 games of the regular season. She has been outstanding in Patriot League contests, averaging 9.6 saves per game and has a .555 save percentage while allowing just 7.87 goals per game.
Another newcomer to the All-Patriot League Teams, Macone has been a mainstay on the Terrier defense this season. She has started every game this season and helped BU limit opponents to just 7.67 goals per game and 23.2 shots per game throughout conference play. She averages just shy of a caused turnover per game, the most among defenders on the team.
