BOSTON - The No. 13 Boston University field hockey team (7-2) returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 29) when it hosts crosstown rival Harvard (4-4) at New Balance Field. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Thursday will close a stretch where seven of eight games have been at home for the Terriers. BU had a nine-game home winning streak come to an end on Sunday with a 5-1 loss to now-No. 1 Connecticut.
The Crimson is coming off a two-win home weekend, blanking rival Yale, 2-0, in its Ivy League opener on Friday before topping No. 20 Maine, 3-1, on Sunday.
This will be the 34th meeting between the two teams with the Terriers holding a 20-12-1 advantage. BU has won seven straight against the Crimson, including a 3-2 road victory last season.
Senior Marissa Balleza holds the Harvard team lead in both points (12) and goals (5) while freshman Bente van Vlijmen has added six points on a trio of goals. Junior Ellie Cookson has a squad-best three assists.
In goal for the Crimson, junior Olivia Startup has played two-thirds of the time thus far this season and has a 2.07 goals-against average to go along with a .538 save percentage. Sophomore Libby Manela has been impressive in her time in the cage, posting a 1.34 GAA and a .714 save percentage.
Senior strikers Amanda Cassera (5g, 2a) and Taylor Blood (4g, 4a) are atop the Terriers' scoring list with 12 points apiece. Sophomore back Ally Hammel has chipped in 10 points on four goals and two assists while senior Hester van der Laan and junior Allie Renzi – both midfielders – each have tallied four goals and an assist.
Senior Cammy Jensen has started every game in goal for the Terriers and currently owns a 1.42 GAA and a .683 save percentage.
After Thursday's game, the Terriers will prepare for a visit to No. 3 Duke on Sunday (Oct. 2).
