Women's Lacrosse Adds Antelmi To Staff
September 6, 2016 | Women's Lacrosse
BOSTON—Jessica Antelmi has been named assistant coach of the Boston University women's lacrosse program, head coach Liz Robertshaw announced on Tuesday. Antelmi brings to BU experience from coaching two of the top teams in Division II and Division III women's lacrosse.
"I could not be more excited to join Boston University's women's lacrosse coaching staff," Antelmi said. "BU's drive for excellence and success on and off the field makes this institution and the women's lacrosse program something special that many would love to be a part of. I'm grateful for this opportunity, and I can't wait to begin working with Liz, Ana, and the student-athletes!"
The lone assistant to head coach Kathy Taylor, Antelmi joins the Terriers following two seasons at perennial NCAA contender LeMoyne College, where she helped lead the Dolphins to two NCAA Final Four appearances and assisted in mentoring the 2015 Division II Attacker of the Year and seven First Team All-Americans.
Antelmi followed Taylor to LeMoyne after coaching with the seasoned mentor at SUNY Cortland where she served as a graduate assistant. During her season with the Red Dragons, Cortland posted a 22-1 record and appeared in its fourth consecutive Final Four. Antelmi aided in the development of both the Division III Attacker and Defender of the Year.
While Antelmi was at LeMoyne, the Dolphins held opponents to just 7.44 goals per game while scoring 13.72 of their own in 2015 and 2016 and finished with a 36-7 overall record. At Cortland, the Red Dragons outscored their opponents, on average, 15.7-5.7 over the course of the 2014 season.
"I'm excited about the adding Jess to our staff and introducing her to the BU Lacrosse Family," Robertshaw said. "Watching her find success on the national level during time at Albany and then seeing her transfer that to such a successful coaching career at Cortland and LeMoyne is something I feel will be a huge boost to our program. Jess knows what it takes to work hard, challenge herself and win, and in addition she has proven to know how to teach it. I feel our attacking unit is in good hands for the years to come."
A 2013 graduate of the University of Albany, Antelmi helped lead the Great Danes to back-to-back America East Championships in 2011 and 2012, leading to two NCAA Tournament appearances. Antelmi earned America East All-Tournament Team honors and IWLCA All-Region recognition as a senior captain. She was named to the America East All-Conference Team in her senior and junior seasons and was one of 12 America East Conference women's lacrosse players to be named to the All-Academic Team in both 2012 and 2013. Antelmi graduated from Albany with a degree in mathematics.
