Junior Ally Hammel capped off a strong weekend with BU's lone goal as the Terriers move to 6-5 on the year.
How it Happened
- Duke was opportunistic throughout the game, beginning with the first shot of the day, as Ashley Kristen found Rose Tynan in the center of the circle for a 1-0 lead at the 5:36 mark.
- The Blue Devils extended their lead in the 14th minute when Erin Scherrer took advantage of a misplayed ball and found the boards above the right post.
- Less than five minutes later, a redirect off a Duke corner pushed the visitors' lead to 3-0 with the goal coming from Stephanie Pezzuti.
- Hammel notched her third goal of the weekend at 26:44 when she drilled a corner shot to the bottom left corner off assists by seniors Jordyn Beesmer and Kali Shumock.
- In the 44th minute, a deflected ball made its way to Gallagher, who sent home a shot from the top of the circle to push the lead to 3-0.
- The Terriers controlled possession for a good portion of the second half but yielded goals from Kristen and Tynan in the 53rd and 65th minutes, respectively, to create the 5-1 final.
Game Notes
- Beesmer collected the first point of her collegiate career as the stick stop on Hammel's tally.
- Freshman Millie Baker became the first BU goalkeeper to play an entire game this season and made three saves - all in the first half.
- Duke held slim advantages in both shots (10-6) and corners (3-2).
- The Terriers outshot the Blue Devils, 5-3, in the second half and did not allow a corner after hafltime.
- Sammi Steele had a three-save performance for Duke.
Up Next
- BU will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 7) when it hosts No. 25 American in a battle for first place in the Patriot League standings.
- The game will be a rematch of last year's league title game, which the Eagles won by a score of 1-0.
- Game time for next week's match at New Balance Field is 11 a.m.
