Second-Half Outburst Fuels Terriers Past UMass Lowell, 12-7

BOSTON, Mass. – In it's Nickerson Field opener, the Boston University women's lacrosse team used a 7-1 scoring output in the second half to run away with a 12-7 victory over UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU staked an early 2-0 advantage as Sarah Andersen scored just 56 seconds in and Kaitlin Belval followed by finding the back of the net at the 27:47 mark.
- UMass Lowell netted the next three goals to take a 3-2 advantage with 14:47 left in the first half.
- Avery Donahoe cashed in on a free position shot before the Riverhawks responded with two straight goals to go back up by one.
- The Terriers exchanged goals to close out the half as Mickenzie Larivee roped a pair over the final five minutes, though the Riverhawks had the upper hand at 6-5 heading into the break.
- Kelly Mathews notched the score for the third and final time just 36 seconds in the second half before Elisabeth Jayne and Donahoe would further BU's 3-0 run with back-to-back goals less than a minute apart.
- Mathews struck again at the 19:42 mark, while Taylor Haridson got on the board just over two minutes later.
- Jayne and Kailey Conry scored within thirty seconds of each other with just over eight minutes to go, capping a 4-0 BU run as the score held until the final whistle.
- BU won its first home opener since 2014, when it edged Holy Cross, 8-6, March 19.
- The Terriers held an opponent to just one goal in a half for the second time in their last five games. Last season, the Terriers held Army West Point to just one goal in the opening half of a 14-3 win.
- Donahoe posted her second straight four-point game with two goals and two assists.
- Caroline Meegan finished with nine saves on the afternoon.
- Winning the draw control proved to be a difference maker in the second half. UMass Lowell won eight of 12 decision in the opening half before the Terriers dominated with a 7-2 advantage in the second stanza.
- BU also dominated ground balls in the second half, scooping up 12 to UMass Lowell's five.
- BU will stay at Nickerson Field as it hosts Dartmouth on Wednesday, March 1 at 3 p.m.
