No. 14/16 Duke Drops Women's Lacrosse, 21-13

DURHAM, N.C. – The Boston University women's lacrosse team trailed by two to No. 14/16 Duke at the half, but the Blue Devils pulled away in the second frame to hand the Terriers at 21-13 defeat Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium.

- Duke got on the board 37 seconds in and kept the early pressure on with two additional scores in the first four minutes.
- Kelly Mathews found the back of the net with 15:26 left in the first half to put the Terriers on the board and make it a 4-1 game.
- Duke responded 21 seconds later, though Kailey Conry cut the deficit back to three by following her shot and scoring off the reset.
- Bridget McCarthy laced in an off-balanced shot for the third score in a five-minute span, while Lexi Lewis bounced in another score two minutes later.
- Conry pushed BU's run to 6-3 with her second strike of the contest to make it a one-goal contest, 7-6, with 4:02 left in the half.
- However, Duke had the final say of the frame as it scored with six seconds left to cushion its advantage to two heading into the break.
- The Blue Devils kept the momentum on their side to start the second half, reeling off a 4-0 run before Emily Vervlied stopped the streak with her first career score with 25:28 to go.
- Following a trio of Blue Devil scores, Mathews and Christine Carugati sparked the attack with back-to-back strikes within a 15-second span to cut the gap to 14-9.
- Trailing by nine after a 5-1 run with nine minutes left, BU would not go down without a fight as Lewis, Kaitlin Belval and Avery Donahoe each beat the keeper within a two-minute span, putting the score at 19-13 with 6:16 remaining.
- Duke kept BU in check as it snapped two goals in the final minutes to close out the game.
- BU recorded its highest offensive output and scored in double figures for the first time in the three-game series against the Blue Devils.
- Christine Liable finished with a career-high 13 saves over the final 52 minutes of action.
- Conry led the team with three assists, all coming in the second half, and is the only Terrier who has recorded multi-goal efforts in all three games so far this season.
- The Terriers assisted on two of their six first-half goals, where as they assisted on five of their seven scores in the second.
- BU placed all its first 24 shots on goal. The first and only miss came with 4:34 left in the game, as BU landed 25 of its 26 shots for the game on frame.
- BU will take on its third ranked opponent in the last four games as it closes its spring break trip at No. 19/20 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, March 7 at 4 p.m.
