
Women's Lacrosse Names 2019 Captains

An IWLCA All-Northeast Region Team and All-Patriot League First Team member, Magnelli posted a stellar junior campaign as she ranked second on the team in caused turnovers (29), and draw controls (50) and also finished third in ground balls (35). One of the premier defenders in the league, Magnelli wreaked havoc on opponent's during conference play as she tabbed 16 caused turnovers, 14 ground balls and 34 draw controls in Patriot League regular season contests.
"I feel honored to be voted captain, and cannot wait to lead this team," said Magnelli. "I know how much potential every individual has and our team as a whole, and I can't wait to start prepping this summer for the upcoming season."
Belval also picked up All-Patriot League honors as the all-around threat at the midfield earned a spot on the Second Team. Belval exploded down the stretch of the season on the draw, winning 49 draw controls against Patriot League opponents and tabbed 81 on the season. Additionally, she ranked fourth on the team in points (27), ground balls (26), caused turnovers (16) and led all midfielders on the team in assists (11).
"I'm both humbled and honored to be voted captain for the upcoming season," Belval stated. "I look forward to getting a jump start this summer in preparation to kill it this spring with the best squad I could ask for."
Mathews also posted a strong season the midfield for the Terriers, producing 13 goals and six assists on the attack. Additionally, Mathews posted 21 draw controls, 19 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
"I'm really excited to step into a new leadership role going into our senior year," exclaimed Mathews. "This team has a ton of potential with so many great returners and a big incoming class. We're definitely off to a good start this summer, and I can't wait for a great season."
