No. 19 Terriers Blank UNH, 4-0, to Claim Wildcat Classic Title
August 26, 2018 | Field Hockey
DURHAM, N.H. - The No. 19 Boston University field hockey team successfully defended its title at the Wildcat Classic on Sunday, getting two goals in each half to post a 4-0 shutout victory over host New Hampshire at Memorial Field.
Senior Ally Hammel had a hand in all four goals (1g, 3a) while sophomore Ailsa Connolly received tournament MVP honors after scoring her second goal of the weekend. Senior Allie Doggett and sophomore Petra Hall also recorded goals for the Terriers, who improve to 2-0 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hall opened the scoring at the 18:07 mark when she took a long pass from Hammel and dribbled into the middle of the circle before firing a shot past UNH netminder Kelsey Rudert.
- Just over five minutes later, a UNH defender had the ball go off her foot near the goal line while trying to defend a corner, resulting in a penalty stroke.
- Hammel converted the stroke – her second of the weekend – to make it a 2-0 cushion at 23:46.
- The Terriers struck back-to-back quickly in the second half to put away the Wildcats.
- Off a corner, Doggett collected a rebound and lofted it over Rudert in the 54th minute for her first goal since her sophomore season.
- Under a minute later, a throw from the backfield by Hammel found its way to Connolly, who quickly dribbled into the the circle from the left side before firing a high blast to the back of the net.
- BU's defense allowed just one shot on goal as senior Kathleen Keegan, sophomore Millie Baker and junior Livy Golini all saw action in the cage to combine for the shutout.
GAME NOTES
- It was the third straight season-opening tournament title for BU, which also defeated UNH in title games at its own Terrier Classic last year and the 2016 Wildcat Classic.

- The Terriers held a 6-4 edge in corners.
- Rudert made seven saves for the Wildcats while Baker stopped the lone shot on goal that UNH could muster.
- Hammel's three assists were a career best.
