BOSTON - The No. 19 Boston University field hockey team will close out Labor Day weekend by hosting No. 24 Ohio State on Monday (Sept. 3). Game time at New Balance Field is set for 1 p.m.
This will be just the second meeting between BU and OSU as the Terriers posted a 1-0 home win in in the inaugural tilt on Sept. 20, 1997. Monday's game will start a run of three Big Ten opponents in five games for BU.
Both squads will be looking to rebound from one goal losses to No. 25 Maine. The Black Bears edged the Buckeyes, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday after handing the Terriers their first loss of the season by the same score on Friday.
BU (2-1) got its lone goal in Friday's game from freshman Casey Thompson, who has five points (2g, 1a) through her first three collegiate games. Senior Ally Hammel is pacing the squad in scoring with seven points on two goals and three assists while sophomore Ailsa Connolly also has a pair of goals. Seniors Allie Doggett and Kara Enoch and sophomore Petra Hall have scored one goal apiece.
Similar to last season, senior goalkeeper Kathleen Keegan and sophomore Millie Baker have split time in goal, combining for a 1.04 goals-against average and a .571 save percentage thus far.
OSU (1-2) opened the season with a 3-2 home loss to No. 9 Delaware on Aug. 24 before posting a 3-2 overtime win over No. 8 Louisville two days later.
The Buckeyes have had five different goal scorers so far in 2018 with junior Esther Clotet Alsina leading the way with two goals and an assist for five points. Sophomore Sammy Stone and senior Courtney Daniels each have four points on a goal and two assists.
Freshman Aaliyah Hernandez and senior Ellen Westfall have shared time in the OSU cage. Hernandez has made eight saves on 11 shots on goal while Westfall has stopped three shots on goal while allowing four tallies.
