Davis Named Hockey East Player of the Month
February 28, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Redshirt junior Sammy Davis of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Player of the Month for February, the league announced on Thursday.
Davis was instrumental in helping the Terriers go 5-1-2 in February and secure home ice for the Hockey East quarterfinals. She led the conference with 14 points thanks to six goals and a league-best eight assists. Her most important goal of the month came in the Beanpot title game at Harvard when she lit the lamp in overtime to clinch the Terriers' first Beanpot trophy since 1981, one of her conference-best two game-winning goals. Davis had tallied three points (1g, 2a) in the Beanpot semifinal against No. 3 Northeastern to help BU get to that championship contest.
The Pembroke, Massachusetts, native finished February as a league-high plus-10 and also led Hockey East with four multi-point efforts, including a trio of three-point contests. Davis averaged a league-leading 1.75 points per game in February thanks in part to a six-game point streak to start the month.
After missing the entire 2017-18 campaign due to injury, Davis has arguably been the comeback player of the year in the entire country. She has recorded career highs in goals (23), assists (24) and points (47), numbers which all rank in the top three among Hockey East skaters. The Terriers are 12-0-7 when Davis lights the lamp and 16-1-7 when she collects at least one point.
BU will begin the Hockey East postseason by hosting a best-of-three quarterfinal series against New Hampshire at Walter Brown Arena. Game one is Friday night at 7 p.m.
