
No. 23 Terriers Fall Short at No. 14 Ohio State, 3-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 23 Boston University field hockey team battled toe-to-toe with No. 14 Ohio State on Monday before coming up just short in a 3-2 contest at Buckeye Varsity Field.
Junior Liz Ryan scored her first goal as a Terrier and junior Ailsa Connolly recorded her fourth goal of the weekend. Freshman Caroline Kelly turned in an impressive 12-save performance.
BU moves to 1-1 on the season while the Buckeyes improve to 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ryan opened the scoring just 15 seconds into the contest when she intercepted a pass on the press before sending in a shot from the right side of the circle.
- The Buckeyes got an equalizer in the 18th minute when Leanne Bough collected a rebound and pushed it under Kelly.
- The home team took a 2-1 lead into the half thanks to freshman Mackenzie Allessie's first collegiate goal at the 32:22 mark.
- Connolly drew the Terriers even in the 40th minute when she gathered a cross by freshman Mikayla Crowley to the right side before depositing the ball in the lower left corner of the cage.
- Tess Maloney provided the game-winner for the Buckeyes when she redirected in a pass from Sina Schwinn in front of the cage less than three minutes after Connolly scored.
- BU earned the only two corners of the fourth quarter, with both coming in the final 75 seconds of play, but could not send the game to overtime.
- Crowley picked up her first collegiate point with an assist on Connolly's tally.
- Ryan played at Albany the past two seasons before transferring to BU in January.
- Kelly's 12 saves were the most by a BU goalkeeper since Kim Kastuk recorded 13 at sixth-ranked Iowa on Sept. 21, 2008.
- Six of Kelly's saves came in the second quarter.
- OSU held a 21-7 advantage in shots and earned 11 corners while allowing the Terriers to earn four.
- Aaliyah Hernandez recorded one save to pick up the win in goal for the Buckeyes.
- The Terriers will return to action on Friday (Sept. 6) when they face New Hampshire in their home opener.
- Game time at New Balance Field is set for 7 p.m.
