BOSTON – After claiming its fifth Patriot League title in eight years, the Boston University women's tennis team has drawn No. 12 national seed LSU in a NCAA first-round matchup set for Friday, May 7, at the LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Doubles action is slated for a 2 p.m. ET start.
Led by 36th-year head coach Lesley Sheehan, the Terriers (10-1) this past weekend captured their 27th overall conference title by edging PL tournament host Navy, 4-3. They will be the only conference champion at the Baton Rouge Regional and will be making their 18th overall NCAA appearance.
Owner of earlier wins against then-No. 9 Vanderbilt and No. 20 Auburn, the LSU Tigers (14-5) will be hosting their first-ever regional after losing to No. 17 Tennessee in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament. In the other Baton Rouge Regional matchup, the current No. 23 and Big 10 runner-up Michigan Wolverines (17-3) will face off against the No. 40 and Conference USA semifinalist Rice Owls (15-6) at 11 a.m. ET.
Friday's winners will face off in the second round on Saturday, May 8, with the regional winner advancing to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, for the final four rounds of the tournament (May 16-22).
