Terriers to Host No. 17 Providence Sunday on NESN

The Boston University men's ice hockey team will continue its 100th season on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Providence to Agganis Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m., with the game to be televised live on NESN.
A revised fan policy will be in effect for Sunday's contest. All guests 12 years and older will be required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19. Proof of a negative COVID-19 test will no longer be accepted.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU improved to 8-1-1 in its last 10 games with a 6-4 victory at No. 9/8 UMass on Tuesday night.
- Senior captain Logan Cockerill collected two goals, including the eventual game-winner.
- Graduate student Max Kaufman and juniors Matt Brown, Robert Mastrosimone and Ethan Phillips each lit the lamp as well, with Brown and Kaufman each adding an assist to complete two-point nights.
- Sophomore goaltender Drew Commesso made 32 saves, including 14 in the third period, to preserve the win.
- Over the last nine games, Commesso is 7-1-1 with a .945 save percentage and a 1.63 goals-against average.
- Junior Matt Brown enters Sunday on a six-game point streak, having tallied four goals and four assists for eight points during that stretch.
- Brown has notched a point in eight of his last nine games.
- Junior Robert Mastrosimone has lit the lamp in three straight contests and has secured a point in six of his last seven appearances.
- In addition to pacing the team in goals (9), Mastrosimone is tied with classmate Domenick Fensore for the team lead in points with 18.
- BU had its streak of 28 straight successful penalty kills snapped on Tuesday at UMass, as the Minutemen went 1-for-3 on the power play.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers and Friars first met in the 1926-27 season and have played 189 times since that encounter. BU leads the series, 111-59-19 (.637).
- BU is 16-8-6 against Providence in their past 30 meetings, but Friars hold a 6-5-6 edge in the past 17.
- That includes a split of last season's series, with Providence earning a 7-3 win at Walter Brown Arena on Jan. 8, 2021, and the Terriers defeating the Friars, 6-4, at Schneider Arena the next night.
- BU is 14-5-5 (.688) against Providence at Agganis Arena, including a 3-3 tie with the Friars in their last visit on Nov. 8, 2019.
- Since the formation of Hockey East, the Terriers have a 56-32-18 (.613) advantage in league games.
- The teams have played 30 overtime games and the Friars hold a 7-4-19 edge in them.
- BU has shut out PC on 18 occasions while only being blanked six times.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
- Providence also enters Sunday coming off a win at UMass, as the Friars defeated the Minutemen, 2-1, on Friday night.
- The Friars are 5-2-2 in their last nine games and have taken eight of a possible nine points over their last three league games.
- Brett Berard leads the Friars with 13 goals and is tied with Nick Poisson for the team lead in points with 28.
- Poisson leads Providence with 21 assists.
- Parker Ford has notched 12 goals and is third on the squad with 21 points while Riley Duran scored two of his eight goals in the 2-1 victory at UMass on Friday.
- Jaxson Stauber has started all 27 games in which he has appeared, posting a 1.98 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.
- He has four shutouts as part of his 16-9-2 record.
- BU will remain home at Agganis Arena to host Maine on Friday, Feb. 4.
- Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
