Women’s Tennis Records Wins at ITA Super Regionals, Brown Classic

BOSTON – The Boston University women's tennis team competed at the ITA Super Regionals and the Brown Classic over the weekend. Grad student Shelly Yaloz and junior Victoria Carlsten each grabbed a singles win in the ITA event and all four of BU's doubles pairs at Brown went undefeated.
At the ITA Super Regionals, Yaloz and Carlsten each lost their first round match to their Cornell and Brown opponents, respectively, but bounced back in the consolation bracket. Yaloz took down Seton Hall's Ariana Gumenoua 7-5, 6-0 while Carlsten defeated Vivian Cheng of Yale 7-5, 6-3.
At the Brown Classic, sophomore Michelle Kleynerman led the team in singles wins after going undefeated on the weekend. She recorded commanding straight-sets wins over her opponents, topping her Rhode Island foe 6-1, 6-0 and her UConn rival 6-1, 6-2.
Also going undefeated in singles was senior Erica Di Battista. She played one singles match in which she took down Rhode Island's Valentina Cvackova 6-1, 6-3. Four additional Terriers ended the weekend with at least one singles win under their belts, including all three of this year's freshmen.
In doubles, all four of BU's doubles pairs went 1-0. Kleynerman and Di Battista as well as freshman Emily Zhao and sophomore Nina Gulbransen posted wins against Dartmouth. Sophomore Sydney Sharma and junior Kaitlin Tan took down their Rhode Island opponents while senior Steph Nguyen and Gulbransen bested their foes from UConn. All doubles wins were decided in straight sets.
BU will compete in one more tournament this fall at the Harvard Invitational which begins on Friday.
