Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 1 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Facing the defending national champions, the Boston University women's lacrosse team dropped a 22-6 decision to No. 1 Boston College on Saturday afternoon at Fish Field House.
Junior Jennifer Barry paced the Terrier attack with two goals, and added seven draw controls. Sophomore Cassie Reinertson tallied her second-consecutive multi-point game with a goal and an assist.
Jenn Medjid tallied a game-high five goals and six points. Reigning NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Charlotte North added four goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles scored the first goal of the game 13 seconds in, but junior Lauren Kaye equalized on a free position tally 1:37 later.
- BC would go up 9-1 before senior Emma Pfaff caused Belle Smith to cough up the ball, leading to Reinertson's goal with 3:53 remaining in the first quarter.
- The Terriers were held scoreless until the 3:22 mark of the third. Senior Kennady Smith entered the game in the cage and stopped Kayla Martello's shot, allowing for Barry to find the back of the net on the other end.
- Barry won the ensuing draw control, and after freshman Matty Spaeth's shot was blocked, sophomore Tobey Tick zipped the ball past BC goalie Rachel Hall.
- Freshman Abby Cotraro lit the lamp on a woman-up opportunity 2:17 into the fourth quarter for BU's third consecutive goal.
- After the Eagles notched their 20th goal, Barry controlled the next draw and beat Emily English between the pipes with 8:10 to play.
GAME NOTES
- Barry recorded multiple goals for the fifth time in her career. She leads the team with 17 draw controls in the first two games of the year.
- Smith finished with four saves and four ground balls in over 36 minutes of action.
- Reinertson has a team-high six points.
- Kaye now has two goals in her career vs. Boston College after earning her first collegiate tally against the Eagles in 2020.
- Pfaff paced the Terriers with two caused turnovers.
- BC increased their lead in the all-time series to 16-11-1.
UP NEXT
- BU aims to rebound at defending MAAC champion Fairfield next Wednesday (Feb. 23). Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
