Gallagher Named to Hockey East All-Rookie Team
March 9, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass. - Freshman defender Ty Gallagher of the Boston University men's ice hockey team was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, the league announced on Wednesday.
Gallagher was terrific in his first season with the Terriers. In 33 games, Gallagher scored five goals and added 11 assists for 16 points. He also led all league rookies with 44 blocked shots and was a plus-8 as one of the Terriers' top four blue liners. Gallagher twice posted a three-assist game, first doing so on Oct. 23 in an 8-6 win over Merrimack and then again on Dec. 10 against Boston College. He scored the game-tying goal in the third period of an eventual overtime triumph at then-No. 8/9 UMass on Nov. 13.
A seventh-round draft choice of the Boston Bruins, Gallagher notched his first collegiate goal at Northern Michigan on Nov. 6 and secured his first collegiate point in his BU debut, a 2-1 win at UConn on Oct. 8. The Clarkston, Michigan, native was a two-time Hockey East Rookie of the Week (Oct. 25 and Jan. 10) and the Hockey East Defender of the Week on Dec. 13.
This continues an impressive streak for the Terriers, who have had at least one All-Rookie Team honoree in each of the past 15 seasons. BU's all-time total of 50 All-Rookie Team selections is the most of any other school.
BU will begin its quest for a 10th Hockey East title on Saturday when the Terriers travel to Hartford to face UConn at 4:30 p.m.
