Field Hockey Earns 2-1 Win over Saint Louis

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Senior Mikayla Crowley scored early in the fourth quarter to break a 1-1 tie and push the Boston University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Saint Louis a neutral-site contest at Grant Field on Saturday afternoon.
BU quickly opened the scoring on a corner goal from junior Tess Csejka in the third minute. SLU got an equalizer just over a minute later and the score remained 1-1 for over 43 minutes of play.
The Terriers improve to 2-2 while the Billikens move to 0-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU came out of the gates strong, quickly earning three straight corners and using the last one to get on the board first.
- Csejka notched her third goal of the season at the 2:19 mark with an assist from sophomore Katie Devine.
- The Billikens did not trail for long, however, as Olivia French dribbled through the circle just over a minute later and found the back of the cage at 3:28.
- BU had a 7-1 shot advantage after the first quarter and earned the first six corners of the game.
- SLU had the lone corner of the second quarter but senior Caroline Kelly came up with a save to keep the game tied.
- The Terriers had a 5-0 edge in shots during the third quarter but only one was on goal and SLU netminder Sasha Sander made a stop on it.
- BU kept the momentum going into the final quarter and produced the game-winner.
- Crowley took a long pass from senior Ellie McIntyre before notching her second goal of the season at the 46:39 mark.
- The Billikens pulled Sander with two minutes to play in favor of an extra attacker and earned a corner with just over a minute to play.
- Junior Kate Thomason made a save on the late corner to preserve the lead and seal the victory.
- BU outshot SLU, 19-3, and held a 7-4 advantage in corners.
- Devine's assist was her first collegiate point.
- Kelly and Thomason each made one save in goal for the Terriers.
- The Terriers will return to action on Friday (Sept. 9) when they visit UMass Lowell.
- Game time is 6 p.m.
