Field Hockey Set to Host American on Senior Day

BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team will close out its regular season on Saturday (Oct. 28) when it welcomes American to New Balance Field for a Senior Day contest starting at noon.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers have clinched the No. 3 seed in next week's Patriot League tournament.
  • BU is coming off a road split last weekend as they defeated Colgate by a score of 6-2 before falling to No. 17 Cornell, 6-0, on Sunday.
  • Senior Thalia Steenssens (4g, 10a) and sophomore Caroline O'Brien (9a) are tied for the team lead in points with 18.
  • O'Brien notched her second hat trick of the season in last Friday's win at Colgate.
  • Junior Payton Anderson has added 12 points on five goals and two assists.
  • Senior Kate Thomason has started all 16 games this season in goal for the Terriers and has a 2.53 goals-against average and a .664 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • American has a perfect 5-0 record in conference play and has clinched the regular-season title and hosting rights for the Patriot League tournament.
  • The Eagles have alternated wins and losses all season and most recently earned a 2-1 win over Holy Cross on Saturday. 
  • American's non-conference wins came against Ohio, Richmond and Yale and it took three ranked teams (Penn State, Liberty, Cornell) to overtime.
  • Graduate student Charllene Boshoff has had a strong season on both ends of the field as the back has contributed a team-best 14 points on seven goals.
  • Freshman Emilia Winkler has added 13 points on five goals and three assists.
  • Senior Bryn Underwood has played every minute in goal for the Eagles and currently has a 1.30 goals-against average and a .777 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY WITH AMERICAN
  • BU is 13-5 in 18 all-time meetings with the Eagles.
  • Last season, the Terriers earned a 2-1 road win over American.
  • The Eagles have won the past two meetings that took place on New Balance Field.
  • The schools first met during the 1997 season.
UP NEXT
  • The Terriers have secured the No. 3 seed for the Patriot League tournament and will face second-seeded Lafayette in the semifinals round on Thursday (Nov. 2) at American.
