October 31, 2023 | Field Hockey
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Four members of the Boston University field hockey team were repeat selections to the All-Patriot League teams, which were announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Junior Payton Anderson and senior Thalia Steenssens were first-team selections for the second consecutive year while senior Rachel Borzymowski earned her third straight second-team honor and was joined by sophomore Martu Coulo for the second time in as many years. This also marked Anderson's third consecutive All-PL recognition as she was a second-team pick as a freshman. All four were Preseason All-PL honorees and were also on the NFHCA Division I Watchlist.
Steenssens leads all Patriot League players in assists this season with 10 and has added four goals to tie her for the team lead in points with 18. She was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 2 after having a hand in all five BU goals in a two-win weekend.Â
Last year's PL Defensive Player of the Year, Anderson has turned in another strong season on both ends of the field with 12 points on five goals and two assists while helping the defense allow just 1.17 goals per game in conference play. She earned Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 2.
Borzymowski, a fifth-year senior, has been strong on the BU backline once again. She has a team-high three defensive saves, giving her 13 for her career, and has also added a pair of assists. A three-time Academic All-PL honoree, Borzymowski enters the postseason with 76 career games played with 71 starts.
Coulo has built off her PL Rookie of the Year campaign last fall and has tallied two goals and two assists as a sophomore with playing in the midfield and up front. She earned a goal and an assist in a win at Holy Cross in the league opener and added a key assist in a home victory over Bucknell.Â
The Terriers enter the Patriot League Championship as the No. 3 seed and will face second-seeded Lafayette in the semifinal round on Thursday (Nov. 2) at 2 p.m. Top-seeded American is serving as the tournament host in Washington, D.C.
