November 1, 2023 | Field Hockey
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Rachel Borzymowski and junior Tegan Poerio of the Boston University field hockey team have been named to the 2023 Academic All-Patriot League team, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Borzymowski becomes the second field hockey student-athlete in Patriot League history to earn Academic All-PL honors in four seasons, joining Casey Thompson '22. This is Poerio's first Academic All-PL honor.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom. The awards are voted on by Patriot League field hockey sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
Borzymowski, who became the program's first-ever Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year last season, is in her fifth year and will graduating at the end of this semester with a degree in biology from the College of Arts & Sciences. She currently has a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average and posted a 4.0 GPA last semester. Now a five-year starter for the Terriers, Borzymowski has played in 76 career games with nine total points on three goals and three assists to go along with 13 defensive saves.
Poerio carries a 3.90 cumulative GPA as a human physiology major in Sargent College and earned a 4.0 GPA last semester. Now in her third year as a starter in the midfield, Poerio has tallied a goal and two assists this season and been a steady presence on both ends of the field for the Terriers. Her goal this season was the game-winner against New Hampshire.
