Celebrini Named Hockey East Player of the Month, National Rookie of the Month
November 1, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass. - Freshman Macklin Celebrini of the Boston University men's ice hockey team picked up a pair of prestigious honors on Wednesday, as he was named Hockey East Player of the Month and National Rookie of the Month, as announced by Hockey East and the Hockey Commissioners Association.
Celebrini is the first rookie in at least 20 years to earn the league's October Player of the Month award, doing so after he led the nation with eight goals and paced all Hockey East players with 11 points. The 17-year-old's 11 points is best among all NCAA freshmen and is tied for eighth among all skaters nationally. Celebrini recorded at least two points in five of his six appearances in October, including a career-high three (1g, 2a) in last Friday's 5-2 win over UMass. He has found the back of the net in all but one of those six games, including three two-goal efforts. Two of his three assists were the primary helper, including on Lane Hutson's overtime-winning goal at Bentley.
In addition to his exceptional play in the offensive end, Celebrini has yet to be a minus player this season, as the center is currently a plus-5. He's also won 53.5 percent of the faceoffs he's taken this season and has only been whistled for one penalty.
Celebrini is just the second rookie since March 2020 to be selected as the league's Player of the Month; Hutson earned that honor for January 2023.
BU will be back in action on Friday night when the Terriers begin a two-game series against North Dakota at Agganis Arena. Fans can purchase tickets to both games by clicking here.
