BOSTON – Graduate student
Colin Innes earned a pair of assists alongside his first goal of the season to help lead the Boston University men's soccer team to a 3-0 home victory over Holy Cross Wednesday night.
Extending their unbeaten streak at Nickerson Field to eight games, the Terriers improve to 6-2-1 and 3-0-0 in conference play, as the Crusaders (3-5-2, 1-1-1 PL) had their two-game win streak snapped.
Senior
Eitan Rosen netted his third goal in two contests during the 11th minute with help from Innes and graduate student
Quinn Matulis. Sophomore
John Roman headed in Innes' cross five minutes later, and Innes delivered the knockout punch at 20:16.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Holy Cross attempted its first shot at 6:38 high over the crossbar but would not attempt another until the 34th.
- During the drought, Innes intercepted a pass near midfield and played a quick ball up to a running Matulis, who sent it forward to Rosen for a 12-yard one-touch shot past the diving Tristan Stephani at 10:10.
- The Terriers needed little time to double their lead, as they took advantage of their first corner with Roman leaping high to head in Innes' cross at 15:49.
- Innes scored the final goal in the 21st minute by driving the ball up the field from near midfield and ripping a shot that took advantage of a deflection by a Holy Cross defender and flew past Stephani.
- The Crusaders tried to start a rally at the beginning of the second half with three corners and had a quality look at 47:13, but Julian Beban's hard header was blocked by one of his own teammates in front.
- Senior Ryan Lee forced a diving save from Stephani in the 62nd minute by running up the field to corral a long pass from classmate Andrew Rent and blasting a shot from 15 yards out.
- BU dominated possession for the rest of the contest to seal its largest margin of victory since posting a 3-0 win at Colgate in the 2020 season opener.
