Celebrini Named Hockey East Rookie of the Week
January 22, 2024 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass.- Freshman Macklin Celebrini of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named Hockey East Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Celebrini tallied three goals in the Terriers' weekend sweep at Vermont. He began the weekend with two markers for his fifth multi-goal game of the season in Friday's 5-1 win before lighting the lamp in Saturday's 5-2 triumph. Celebrini leads all NCAA rookies with 16 goals and is tied for second among the nation's freshmen with 32 points. Only four players in the entire country have more points than the 17-year-old Celebrini, who extended his point streak to six games on Saturday.
This is Celebrini's second straight Hockey East Rookie of the Week honor and third such accolade of the season. He was also recognized as the league's Player of the Week on Oct. 30.
For the first time ever, the Battle of Comm. Ave will feature the top two teams in the country, as No. 1 BU faces No. 2 Boston College in a home-and-home series that begins Friday in Chestnut Hill and concludes Saturday at Agganis Arena. Puck drop on both nights is scheduled for 7 p.m.
