No. 15/13 Terriers to Host Vermont for Weekend Series at Agganis

The No. 15/13 Boston University men's ice hockey team will host Vermont for a weekend series that begins on Friday night at Agganis Arena. Puck drop on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the teams skating on Saturday at 5 p.m.
In addition to the games being streamed on ESPN+, an audio-only broadcast for both games will be located here.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers begin 2025 with a focus on the league schedule, as the Beanpot will feature their final two non-conference games of the season.
- BU enters the new year tied with Boston College, Providence and UMass Lowell for second in the league standings with 17 points, just one point behind first-place Maine.
- The Terriers closed 2024 with a 7-5 loss at Yale on Dec. 29.
- Junior Quinn Hutson and freshman Alex Zetterberg each tallied two goals and one assist, with Zetterberg securing career highs in both goals and points.
- Junior Ryan Greene recorded one goal and one assist while freshman Sascha Boumedienne collected a career-best two assists.
- Friday will mark the return of the Terriers' four World Juniors standouts.
- Sophomore Tom Willander led Sweden to a fourth-place finish as one of the team's assistant captains, totaling five points (2g, 3a) and finishing third among all skaters in average time on ice.
- Freshmen Cole Eiserman, Cole Hutson and Brandon Svoboda all claimed gold with the United States.
- Svoboda and Hutson sparked Team USA's comeback in the gold-medal game, with Hutson assisting on Svoboda's goal to cut Finland's lead to 3-2 before scoring a goal of his own minutes later to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the third period.
- Hutson set Team USA's single-tournament scoring record for a defenseman with his 11th point and also became the first defenseman to lead the World Junior Championship in scoring.
- Eiserman totaled three goals and four assists for seven points while Svoboda notched six points (3g, 3a) in addition to being one of Team USA's top faceoff men and penalty killers.
- Quinn Hutson and sophomore Shane Lachance enter the weekend tied for the team lead in both assists (11) and points (18).
- Quinn has totaled five points (3g, 2a) in his last two games and eight points (4g, 4a) over his last five appearances.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers and Catamounts have played 95 times since the 1971-72 season, with BU holding a 60-25-10 (.684) advantage.
- BU is 26-5-3 in the past 34 meetings, including a seven-game win streak dating back to the 2021-22 season.
- From 1974-84, the teams shared time in the ECAC, with BU posting a 13-4-1 record against the Catamounts during the span.
- Since the Catamounts joined Hockey East in 2005, the teams have met 54 times and BU holds a 33-14-7 advantage in those contests.
- Overtime has been necessary in 18 meetings and BU is 7-1-10 in those decisions.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
- UVM has won five straight games, including an 8-1 win over St. Lawrence on Jan. 4.
- All five of those victories have been in non-conference games.
- The Catamounts are 3-4-2 in league play, earning a 3-2 win at UMass on Nov. 24 in their last Hockey East contest.
- Freshman Max Strand, the reigning Hockey East and National Rookie of the Month, leads the Catamounts with 18 points on six goals and a team-best 12 assists.
- Senior Joel Määttä also has 12 assists and is second on the squad with 16 points.
- Freshman Colin Kessler leads the Catamounts with seven goals.
- Sophomore goaltender Axel Mangbo is 7-4-0 in 11 starts, posting a .917 save percentage and a 2.09 goals-against average.
- He has recorded three shutouts and has only allowed one goal over his last two starts.
- BU will begin a home-and-home series with No. 17/16 New Hampshire next Friday (Jan. 17) at the Whittemore Center.
- The teams will conclude that weekend set at Agganis on Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.
