Terriers Fall to Tar Heels in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In a homecoming for junior captain Audrey Ericksen, the Boston University women's basketball program fell to No. 10/11 North Carolina 82-40 on Sunday afternoon at Carmichael Arena.
BU (3-6) had a better shooting percentage after one quarter and trailed by 19 at halftime to the Tar Heels (9-2) but could not close the divide in the second half.
Sophomore Hildur Gunnsteinsdóttir finished with a team-best 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Senior Anete Adler had eight points and five rebounds.
Five Tar Heels reached double figures. Elina Aarnisalo posted a game-high 14 points. Indya Nivar and Taliyah Henderson followed with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU jumped in front on its second possession of the game as senior Anastasiia Semenova stuck her midrange jumper 33 seconds into the contest.
- Consecutive layups from junior Bella McLaughlin, one of which drew a foul, kept BU within one point as the visitors trailed 7-6 at the 5:46 mark.
- Gunnsteinsdóttir's layup with 1:07 left in the first quarter cut the deficit to 17-12, but the Tar Heels went on an extended 16-2 run that expanded their lead to 33-14 with just under two minutes remaining in the second.
- The Iceland native bookended halftime with a pair of corner three-pointers while sophomore Allison Schwertner made back-to-back layups, but UNC outscored the Terriers 28-12 in the third quarter to take a 66-31 lead.
- North Carolina led by as many as 43 points after Henderson's tip-in and fastbreak layup put the Tar Heels in front, 76-33. Gunnsteinsdóttir nailed her third three-pointer a minute later.
- Ericksen capped the Terriers' scoring with a corner three with under 53 seconds left to elicit cheers from the BU supporters in the crowd.
- BU made under 28 percent of their shots while shooting 5-for-20 from distance.
- North Carolina finished the game shooting 44.4 percent while knocking down 11 three-pointers.
- UNC collected 45 rebounds, 18 of which were on the offensive glass to help generate 17 second-chance points.
- Ericksen led the Terriers with three assists while Semenova snagged six rebounds.
- Gunnsteinsdóttir has scored 11 points in back-to-back games, the first time in her career she's achieved that feat.
- Dating back to Feb. 22, Ericksen has made at least one three-pointer in 13 of her last 15 appearances.
- Sunday was the first all-time meeting between BU and North Carolina.
- The Terriers fall to 4-18 against ACC opponents.
- BU concludes its three-game road swing at UAlbany on Saturday (Dec. 13). Opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
