Team Effort Powers Women's Lacrosse Past Stonehill

BOSTON — Three Terriers finished with hat tricks and eight players finished with goals as the Boston University women's lacrosse team (2-1, 0-0 PL) blew past Stonehill (0-1, 0-0 NEC) by a 14-6 margin on Saturday at Nickerson Field.
BU had built up a 9-4 lead at the half and never looked back, allowing just two goals the rest of the way and causing 13 turnovers to down the Skyhawks.

- BU's Izzy Amonte scored on the Terriers' first possession off a free position.
- Sophomore Tessa Geddes followed Amonte's effort with her third goal of the season at 12:18.
- At 11:01, senior Hannah Tillier extended the lead with her second goal of the year, making it 3-0.
- The Skyhawks struck back at 10:32, but then sophomore Reilly Walsh finished off a pass from Avery Jones and made it 4-1 Terriers with 8:04 to play in the first.
- Stonehill got another goal before sophomore Alex Cutone entered the fray with her own tally at 2:53.
- After one quarter, the score was 5-3 Terriers.
- The second quarter was all BU, as Amonte found the back of the net on a player-up opportunity.
- Junior Elle Stevenson scored her first of three goals at 9:53 in the second, and Tillier added her second with 8:05 on the clock in the first.
- Stonehill had an answer to make it 8-4 BU, but graduate student Kendall Sims had the last laugh of the first half as she put home her first goal of the year to make it 9-4.
- In the second half, Stevenson started the scoring on a player-up opportunity.
- Tillier finished off her hat trick with 13:04 to play in the quarter.
- Stonehill added two goals in the third, including one from Grace Murphy, who finished the game with a hat trick.
- BU outscored Stonehill in the fourth quarter 3-0, with Stevenson completing her hat trick with 12:46 to play.
- Amonte's first collegiate hat trick was finished with 12:18 left in the game, and then junior Jayne Feeney added one more with 1:55 to play.
- Tillier finished the game with both three goals and three assists, tying her career high in points with six.
- Four players scored at least three points, with Jones (3 assists), Cutone (1 goal, 2 assists), Amonte (3 goals, 1 assist) and Tillier all contributing to the offensive effort.
- In net, goalkeeper Natalie Aiosa tied her career high in saves with 12, posting a .667 save percentage.
- The Terriers were stout defensively, causing 13 turnovers and picking up 23 ground balls.
- Freshman Alex Burns caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls in the win.
- The Terriers are now 3-0 against Stonehill all-time after winning in back-to-back-to-back seasons.
- Amonte leads the Terriers in points with nine and goals with seven, while Tillier is right behind her with eight.
- BU outdrew Stonehill 15-8 and freshman Kaitlyn Barton posted nine draw controls.
- BU went 18-of-19 on clears while Stonehill was 18-for-26.
- The Terriers have one more home game to open the season, welcoming defending MAAC champions Fairfield to town on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
- Opening draw is set for 3:30 p.m. at Nickerson Field
