AMESBURY, Mass. – Graduate student Tamara Giaquinto of the No. 14/13 Boston University women's ice hockey team was named the Army ROTC defender of the year, Hockey East announced Wednesday. She is the third Terrier to win the award in program history and the first since Kasey Boucher in 2012.
Giaquinto captained BU to a 21-11-2, 18-7-2 HE record this season as BU improved its winning percentage from the previous season (14-18-3, 12-14-1 HE in 2023-24). BU hit the 20-win mark for the first time since 2019-20, marking the ninth occurrence of this milestone in program history.
Giaquinto tallied 17 points in the regular season off eight goals and nine assists. Six of her goals came on the power play which is not ninth in the NCAA but is tied for the lead in Hockey East. At the time, she owned three power-play goals which was fifth in the NCAA. Giaquinto has been recognized as a top performer in the league six times this season.
Giaquinto and the Terriers will be back in action on Saturday (March 1) for the Hockey East Quarterfinals. Puck drop at Walter Brown Arena is set for 4 p.m.
