Terriers Set for NCAA Opening Round at No. 12 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Boston University women's tennis team is prepped to face No. 12 Texas Tech in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Friday. First serve at McLeod Tennis Center is set for 2 p.m. ET.
 
BU, making its 20th NCAA appearance, drew 11th-seeded Texas Tech after receiving an automatic bid to the tournament following its seventh Patriot League title. This will be BU and Texas Tech's second-ever NCAA meeting. The teams met for the opening round in 2016 when the Red Raiders won 4-0.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU is 13-8 on the season with a 7-7 record against non-conference foes.
  • Sophomore Uma Bakaityte is 10-7 in dual match singles after a 2-1 performance at the Patriot League championship at line one.
  • Freshman Gabriella Mikaul, who was named the Patriot League tournament MVP, owns an 8-7 dual match singles record.
  • Freshman Madison Liu boasts an 11-8 singles record in dual matches, which leads the Terriers.
  • Junior Emily Zhao clinched the Patriot League title for the Terriers and owns a combined 21 wins in singles and doubles this season.
  • Bakaityte and Mikaul lead BU in doubles at the top of the lineup with a 12-8 record at the No. 1 spot
  • Sophomore Blanka DeMicheli and Liu have 11 doubles wins on the season, all of which came in the No. 2 spot.
  • Zhao and senior Nina Gulbransen also own 11 doubles wins with a record of 11-5.
 
SCOUTING THE RED RAIDERS
  • Texas Tech is 22-2 overall and most recently claimed the Big 12 title.
  • The Red Raiders' two losses came against then-No. 18 Tennessee and then-No. 44 TCU. They have not lost a match since March 14.
  • Texas Tech has not given up more than two points in a match since March 14 and is on a winning streak of 11 matches.
  • The Red Raiders have two doubles pairs ranked by the ITA in No. 8 Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova as well as No. 70 Mariia Hlahola and Hailey Murphy.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
  • The winner of Friday's matches will face off on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET for a chance to advance to the super regionals.
  • BU's potential foe will be the winner of No. 25 Stanford and No. 56 FIU.
