The Boston University field hockey team will close out a homestand this weekend, hosting American in the Patriot League opener on Friday (Sept. 19) before facing Bryant on Sunday (Sept. 21).

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU will wrap up a four-game homestand and a stretch of six of seven games at New Balance Field to open the season.
  • The Terriers are coming off a 1-0 win over then-No.4 Boston College on Sunday after picking up their first win of the season - a 4-2 triumph over Quinnipiac - two days prior.
  • Senior Caroline O'Brien has had a hand in BU's past six goals with two goals and four assists during the stretch.
  • O'Brien was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday while freshman Delfi Coulo was tabbed PL Rookie of the Week and junior Sophie Ortyl was selected as PL Goalkeeper of the Week. 
  • Coulo scored the winner against BC for her first collegiate goal and Ortyl recorded a career-best 10 saves in her second collegiate shutout.
  • Seven of O'Brien's team-best eight points (2g, 4a) came last weekend.
  • Freshman Molly Driscoll and junior Nicole Lauro have scored two goals apiece this season.
  • Senior Martu Coulo and Lauro both earned spots on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
  • Ortyl has a .778 save percentage and 2.00 goals-against average this season.
  • Seniors Maddie Hudson and Celia Nocivelli are serving as co-captains this year.
  • Sally Starr is in her 45th season as head coach of the Terriers. 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • After opening the year with a 10-0 win against William & Mary, American has dropped four straight, most recently falling victim to a 2-0 shutout against Penn on Sunday. 
  • The Eagles were picked second in the Patriot League preseason poll.
  • Senior Agustina Roffo - the Patriot League Preseason Midfielder of the Year - leads the team in points (7) and goals (3) and was joined by junior Emilia Winkler on the PL Preseason All-League Team.
  • Junior Jordan Reicher has added five points on two goals and an assist.
  • Senior Pauline Gineste is in her first year as the team's top netminder and currently sports a .700 save percentage and a 1.80 goals-against average.

SERIES HISTORY VS. AMERICAN

  • BU is 13-8 in 21 all-time meetings with the Eagles but American has won five of the past six meetings.
  • Last season, the Terriers dropped a 2-0 road contest to American in the regular season before being edged, 1-0, against the Eagles in the Patriot League semifinals.
  • The schools first met during the 1997 season.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
  • Bryant went 2-2 on a season-opening four-game homestand with wins over New Haven and Stonehill.
  • Most recently, the Bulldogs dropped a 4-0 contest at Providence last Friday. 
  • Bryant was picked sixth in the America East preseason poll.
  • Junior Callie Caito leads the team in points (9) and goals (4) while sophomore Megan Smith has five points on two goals and an assist. 
  • In goal, junior Sara DeSousa and sophomore Maud van Lierop have split time thus far this season and have combined for a 1.65 goals-against average and a .692 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY VS. BRYANT

  • BU and Bryant have met only once before as the Terriers opened the 2017 season with a 4-0 win over the Bulldogs at New Balance Field.
