Terriers Claim Three Weekly Patriot League Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Three student-athletes on the Boston University field hockey team were honored in the first Patriot League weekly awards of the season, as announced by the league office on Monday following a vote from the head coaches.
Sophomore Lucy Johnson was named Forward of the Week, senior Alex Purcell was selected as Defender of the Week and freshman Jenna Park received Rookie of the Week honors.
Johnson opened the season with a breakout weekend, scoring the first four goals of her collegiate career. She recorded the final two goals in Friday's 7-2 home win over Merrimack in the season opener before adding both of the team's goals in a 3-2 loss at Providence on Sunday.
Purcell recorded a combined three assists over the two games, finding classmate Bella Bergner twice in the final minute of the first half on Friday before finding Johnson with a long pass that led to the first goal of the game at Providence. She also helped BU limit Merrimack to just three shot attempts in the win.
Park wasted no time making in impact, scoring just 83 seconds into her collegiate career with an impressive individual effort for an early 1-0 lead against Merrimack. On Sunday, she assisted on Johnson's second goal to give BU a 2-1 lead.
This is the second weekly honor of Purcell's career as she was tabbed the PL Rookie of the Week on Sept. 4, 2023, while these are the first honors for Johnson and Park.
The Terriers return to action on Friday (Sept. 4) when they visit No. 15 Massachusetts for a 4 p.m. contest.
