Amanda Barnes enters her first season as an assistant coach for the Boston University lacrosse team in 2011. Prior to joining the Terriers, Barnes spent two years as an assistant coach for the Ohio State women's lacrosse team.
While at Ohio State, Barnes helped guide the Buckeyes to a 20-14 record while working primarily with the team's goaltending corps. Under her tutelage, Annie Carruthers was tabbed the 2010 American Lacrosse Conference Goalie of the Year and, in 2009, Kristen Gilwee ended her career with program records in career saves and wins.
Before her coaching career, Barnes was a four-year letter winner at North Carolina, where she helped lead the Tar Heels to the NCAA quarterfinals each season. The squad's starting netminder as a senior, Barnes was a four-year member of the ACC academic honor roll.
In addition, the Bel Air, Md., native as a multi-year participant in the Carolina Leadership Academy and received the program's highest honor, the Three-Dimensional Leader award. She also has extensive experience working as a camp instructor, including North Star, Adrenaline, Between the Pipes, UNC, NEMS and Elite 300 camps.
Barnes, who also starred in cross county and swimming at C. Milton Wright High School, led the Mustangs to the 2004 Maryland state lacrosse championship. She was inducted into her high school's hall of fame in spring 2009.
