"She was like watching Ginger Rogers perform on the dance floor."
That's how head coach Sally Starr described Patrice Schena.
"She was a very fluid player," said Starr. "She had great vision on the field, and was very efficient moving the ball. You just enjoyed watching her play because she was so skilled. She made the game look easy."
A native of Cheshire, Connecticut, Patrice was the only freshman to start for the 1987 Terrier field hockey team that finished with a 12-7-2 record and final national ranking of 13th. She played in 19 of the team's 21 games, had two assists and was named the Boston Four Rookie of the Year.
Over the next three years, she scored three goals and added 25 assists to finish her career with a 4-27-35.
As a junior on the 1989 team, Patrice tied for second on the team in assists with seven and was third in points with eight, as BUÂ finished with a 13-4-2 record and ninth place in the final national rankings. She earned First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Northeast Region honors.
Saving her best for last, Patrice was co-captain of the team that finished with an 11-8-1 mark, including a 3-0-1 conference record and the North Atlantic Conference regular-season title. Individually, Patrice led the team in assists with 17 and tied for first in points with 21. Her honors included Second Team All-America, Conference Player of the Year, First Team All-Northeast Region, Boston Four Player of the Year, team MVPÂ and the Gretchen Schuyler Award as the University's outstanding female student-athlete.
Patrice continued her field hockey playing career as a member of the Boston Hockey Club.
