Softball Splits With Hofstra
April 17, 1999 | Softball
BOSTON -- The Boston University softball team split a pair of one-run games against America East rival Hofstra, 5-4 and 0-1.
In the opener, the Terriers overcame a four-run deficit behind a 12-hit attack, which saw every Boston University batter enter the hit column. After Dana Bennett (Wappinger Falls, NY) put Hofstra ahead 4-0 with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, the Terriers responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Boston University then went ahead in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Amy Parker (Newburgh, NY) led off with a walk and later scored on Aryn Rangel's (Greeley, CO) RBI double.
Sophomore Robyn King (13-5) went the distance, allowing seven hits and two earned runs. Parker, Kerry Herr (New Windsor, NY), and Betsy Gonski (Northampton, MA) paced the Terriers with two hits each.
In game two, Hofstra's Alicia Smith (Katonah, NY) outdueled the Terriers' Mary Colleran (Valencia, CA), as a second-inning run for the Flying Dutchwomen accounted for the game's only scoring. Smith tossed a two-hitter, striking out seven, while Colleran allowed only three hits in the loss.
