Softball Sweeps Drexel in Doubleheader
April 18, 1999 | Softball
BOSTON - The Boston University softball team earned a pair of shutout wins on Sunday over America East rival Drexel, 4-0 and 2-0.
The Terriers cruised in the opener despite a 14-strikeout performance from Drexel pitcher Lori Swanson (Clay, NY). Leslie Linnemeyer (Glendale, CA) went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to pace Boston University. Linnemeyer opened the scoring in the first inning when she belted a triple to drive in Courtney Herr (New Windsor, NY), and later scored on a passed ball.
The lead proved more than enough for sophomore Robyn King, (15-5), who tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout while striking out nine and walking none.
Junior Mary Colleran (8-5) followed King's performance with a four-hit shutout of her own in game two. Colleran fanned four while walking just one in a pitcher's duel that remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Linnemeyer was again the offensive hero for Boston University, as her RBI double in the sixth drove home Kenya Palmer (Stone Mountain, GA) for what proved to be the winning run.
