The Terriers' women's tennis team posted its most impressive win of the spring season on Sunday with a 5-1 victory over Syracuse. Since the Terriers had the match won after the singles competition, there was no doubles matches played.
The victory improved B.U.'s overall record to 9-9, including their fall schedule.
Syracuse went into the match ranked number 63 among the nation's top 100-ranked teams, but the best the Orange could do was win a three-set match at number one singles. There, the Terriers' Selin Nassi lost, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6.
As it turned out, it was the only three-set match the Terriers would lose all afternoon, as they went on to win three others.
Carrie Rose won her match at number four singles, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
Karen Shostakovsky won the marathon match of the day at number five singles, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6.
Finally, Chrissie Cerretani, who impressed the Syracuse team along with the fans on hand for the match with her singing of the National Anthem before the match began, won her three-set battle at number six singles, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Two other Terriers breezed through their matches. Jenni Momii won at number two, 6-3, 6-2, while Christine Causway won at number three, 6-4, 6-1.
"It was a great match for us to win," said an obviously pleased head coach Lesley Sheehan. "I was very impressed with how we won three of the four three-set matches.
"We had been struggling a little bit this spring. That's why this was such a great win for us," continued the coach. "I was very proud with how we played as a team."
The Terriers, who had been scheduled to host Providence on Monday, will play the Lady Friars on the Case Center courts on Tuesday afternoon.
