Maine Sweeps Softball, 2-1 and 3-1

ORONO, ME -- The University of Maine swept Boston University in an America East Conference doubleheader at Lengyel Field. The Black Bears took the first game, 2-1 in 10 innings, before prevailing in the nightcap, 3-1. Maine improves to 23-16, 4-6 in America East, while Boston University drops to 25-12, 4-4 in the league.
In the first game, Maine's Sara Jewett hit an RBI double to plate Katie Fraser with no outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Black Bears. Robyn King (Ashby, MA) took the loss, her first in her last nine starts. King (16-6) allowed just three nine hits, one earned run, and struck out 12. B.U. pushed its lone run across in the top of the fifth inning, Ingrid Anderson (Redmond, WA) singled home King, who had singled with one out.
In the nightcap, Leigh Ann Hlywak drove in all three runs to lead the Black Bears to a 3-1 win and the sweep. King drove in the Terriers' lone run with a RBI groundout in the top of the sixth. Twin sisters Kerry and Courtney Herr (New Windsor, NY) each had two hits for B.U. Mary Colleran (Valencia, CA) took the loss, allowing eight hits. Colleran (9-6) struck out five and walked one.
