Softball Sweeps Vermont

BOSTON - Boston University snapped a four-game losing with a doubleheader sweep of Vermont, 5-0 and 5-1, at Malvern Field. With the sweep, the Terriers improve to 27-14, 6-6 in America East. Vermont drops to 15-22, 4-8.
In the first game, Robyn King (Ashby, MA) pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts to earn her 17th victory of the season. King had a no-hitter through through 5.1 innings before Vermont's Sarah Toney (Brattleboro, VT) singled up the middle to end the Catamount hitting drought. The Terriers then scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to break the game open, two coming on a single by Courtney Herr (New Windsor, NY). Aryn Rangel (Greeley, CO) led B.U. with three hits, while Leslie Linnemeyer (Glendale, CA) and King each contributed two.
In the nightcap, Mary Colleran (Valencia, CA) allowed just four hits as the Terriers prevailed, 5-1. After spotting the Catamounts a 1-0 lead, Linnemeyer led off the second inning with a home run to left field, and the Terriers scored two more runs to take a 3-1 lead. B.U. added two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning top close out the scoring. Linnemeyer, King, and Nili Schnairsohn (Stoughton, MA) each had two hits for the Terriers. Colleran (10-7) struck out four and walked none. Jill Nocera (Bristol, CT) had two hits for the Catamounts.
