Boston University 8 (6) 9 (5) Brown 0 1
BOSTON - The Boston University softball team extended its winning streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep, 8-0 and 9-1, of visiting Brown at Malvern Field. The Terriers, who have won 14 of their last 15 games, also increased their winning streak against Brown to nine.
In the opener, sophomore Robyn King (11-5) struck out 10 and contributed three hits at the plate in an 8-0 shutout, which was called in the sixth inning because of the eight-run rule. The Terriers took a 2-0 lead after one inning as sophomore catcher Leslie Linnemeyer blasted her second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field. B.U. added four runs in the second, and added two in the sixth, including a solo home run by sophomore CF Courtney Herr, her first as a collegian.
In the nightcap, junior Mary Colleran pitched a one-hitter as the Terriers prevailed, 9-1, in a game called in the fifth inning. Colleran (7-3) had a perfect game through four innings before a B.U. error, a single by Sara Rowbottom, and an RBI groundout by Alli Grant put Brown on the scoreboard. The run snapped Colleran's 26-inning scoreless streak.
Offensively, the Terriers banged out 12 hits, including two each by sophomore SS Kerry Herr, senior 2B Ingrid Anderson, and senior LF Betsy Gonski. B.U. scored two runs in each of the first two innings and closed out the contest with four in the bottom of the fifth, with Kerry Herr and Linnemeyer each driving in single runs.
