Two Softball Players Earn GTE Academic All-District Honors

BOSTON -- Two members of the Boston University softball team - senior outfielder Betsy Gonski (Northampton, MA/Northampton) and junior first baseman Amy Parker (Newburgh, NY/Valley Central) - earned GTE Academic All-District I Honors.
As a result, both Gonski and Parker are eligible for selection to the national GTE Academic All-America Softball team, to be announced on June 3.
Gonski appeared in 41 games in 1999, starting 40. Hitting a career-high .276 (27-of-98), Gonski had seven multiple-hit games in 1999. She was third on the team with 10 stolen bases and was perfect in 54 fielding chances. With 101 hits, Gonski ranks 10th on the B.U. career list.
Academically, Gonski sports a 3.61 grade-point average as an occupational therapy major in the Sargent College of Allied Health Professions. She is a four-time America East Academic Honor Roll selection.
Parker appeared in 41 games, starting 40, and finished with a career-best .275 batting average (33-of-120). She also finished third on the team in runs scored (16), doubles (7), and base on balls (13), while leading the team with 10 sacrifice hits. In the field, Parker posted an impressive .990 fielding percentage.
A health studies major, Parker posts a 3.96 grade-point average and has been a three-time America East Academic Honor Roll selection.
Boston University finished the 1999 season with a 28-15 record, but finished 7-7 in America East play. As a result, the Terriers did not qualify for the four-team postseason tournament for the first time in eight years.
