Softball Splits With Hartford

BOSTON -- Boston University closed out regular-season play on Sunday by splitting with Hartford, 2-0 and 1-3, at Malvern Field. With the split, the Terriers' record is now 28-15, 7-7 in America East. Hartford closes out its season at 20-23, 3-11 in America East.
In the first game, Robyn King (Ashby, MA) tossed her second consecutive shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out 12. The Terriers got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Betsy Gonski (Northampton, MA) beat out an infield grounder with two outs to drive home Nili Schnairsohn (Stoughton, MA). Leslie Linnemeyer (Glendale, CA) added an insurance run when she led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a home run over the left field fence.
In the nightcap, the Terriers surrendered three unearned runs and managed only three hits against Hartford's Liz Nadeau (Woburn, MA). B.U.'s Aryn Rangel (Greeley, CO) opened the scoring in the second inning when she hit a two-out solo home run. Hartford drew even in the fifth when Kristine Hewitt (Haverstraw, NY) doubled and later scored on an error. Hewitt added the game-winning RBI in the sixth when her sacrifice fly drove home Jenn Vuolo (Madison, CT).
