Three Softball Players Earn America East All-Conference
May 6, 1999 | Softball
Three members of the Boston University softball team earned America East All-Conference honors, as voted by the league's seven head coaches. Sophomore pitcher Robyn King (Ashby, MA/North Middlesex) and sophomore infielder Kerry Herr (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) were both selected to the First Team for the second straight year, while sophomore catcher Leslie Linnemeyer (Glendale, CA/Crescenta Valley) earned Second Team status. King was dominating on the mound in 1999, recording an 18-7 record with a 1.33 earned run average. King struck out 188 batters in 178.2 innings of work, and opponents hit just .181 off her. In conference play, King was even more impressive, winning five of her seven decisions and recording a minuscule 0.89 ERA. In 55 innings, King struck out 59 while walking just 19. Herr followed up her 1998 America East Rookie of the Year campaign with a productive sophomore campaign. Herr had a team-high .362 batting average, one of 10 offensive categories she ranked first on the team. She also had team-best totals for hits (46), multiple-hit games (14), total bases (72), on-base percentage (.438), slugging percentage (.567), triples (4), runs scored (25), base on balls (17), and stolen bases (14-of-15). Herr (106 career hits) became just the ninth player in B.U. softball history to reach 100 when she connected for a single vs. Towson on April 28. Linnemeyer was one of just three Terriers to start all 43 games. She finished sixth on the team with a .268 average, but first in runs batted in with 23. She also shared the team lead with Herr with 16 extra base hits, and had team highs in doubles (10) and home runs (5). In conference play, Linnemeyer hit a team-high .333, including three home runs and 10 runs batted in. Boston University finished the season with a 28-15 record, but finished 7-7 in America East-play. As a result, the Terriers did not qualify for the four-team postseason tournament for the first time in eight years.
