September 24, 1999 at Boston University, 8; New Hampshire, 1 (1-0) The Terriers opened the season with an impressive win over America East rival New Hampshire. The only loss came at number one singles where Christina Causway had to retire with an injury in the second set of her match ... Aside from that, the Terriers dominated the Wildcats, as they did not lose a set in the five other singles matches. In fact, B.U. players lost a total of only five games in the 10 sets, as they outscored UNH by a combined total of 60-5. Number three Chrissy Cerretani, number five Alana Marcu and number six Andrea Nickel all posted straight-set 6-0, 6-0 wins. Then, in the doubles Causway and Shostakovsky won, 8-1, at number one, Cerretani and Marcu had an 8-0 win at number two, and Rose and Mickel closed out with an 8-1 win at number three.

October 21, 1999 at Boston University, 5; UMass/Amherst, 1 (2-0) The Terriers swept to straight-set victories at numbers two through six singles, thereby eliminating any need to play doubles. Thus, the final score adds up to six points. Selin Nassi, who missed the season opener, played number one singles and lost in a tough three-set match, 7-5, 0-6, 6-4. The easiest win for B.U. came at number six singles where Chrissy Cerretani did not lose a game en route to the 6-0, 6-0 win. The toughest win was at number three where Carrie Rose needed three sets to notch her victory, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 ... Other winners for B.U. were Christina Causway at number two, 6-2, 6-1; Alanu Marcu at number four, 6-3, 6-4; and Karin Shostakovsky at number five, 6-3, 6-3.

October 29, 1999 Yale 6; Boston University 3 (2-1) In a hard-fought match played at the MIT courts, the Terriers closed out their fall dual-match schedule. Earlier, they had played at the Syracuse Invitational and the Brown Invitational ... This outcome against the Elis could have just as easily gone the other way as B.U. lost three of the singles matches in three sets. Christina Causway lost at number one, 7-6, 3-6, 4-6; Selin Nassi lost at number two, 4-6, 6-4, 1-6; and Carrie Rose lost at number three, 0-6, 6-4, 1-6. February 12, 2000 Alabama-Birmingham, 5; at Boston University, 4 (2-2) The Terriers began their spring season the way they ended the fall seasonwith a hard-fought match that could have easily been a win. February 13, 2000 Minnesota, 5; at Boston University, 2 (2-3) The Terriers dropped four of the six singles matches and all three doubles. The teams used a new scoring format for the doubles as one point was awarded to the team that won the majority of the doubles matches. Thus, the three losses in doubles totaled just one point in the team scoring. Also, the winner of each match was the first team to win eight games. This would be the scoring format for doubles for the rest of the season for the Terriers ... B.U.'s two wins in singles came at numbers one and four. TERRIERS WIN SEVENTH STRAIGHT CONFERENCE TITLE At National Tennis Center Flushing, New York

Women Netters Blank Drexel In Tournament Opener April 20 Boston University, 9; Drexel, 0 (13-5)

The top-seeded Terrier women's tennis team, looking for its seventh straight America East team title, had little trouble in disposing of eighth-seeded Drexel, 9-0, in the opening match of the league tournament. Playing at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY, the Terriers swept to straight-set wins in the six singles matches as well as the three doubles matchups.

In the singles play, number one Selin Nassi defeated Julia Litvak, 6-1, 6-2; number two Christina Causway blanked Julie Bonner, 6-0, 6-0; number three Karina Shostakovsky defeated Leah Fasenmyer, 6-0, 6-2; number four Carrie Rose defeated Lynn Pigliacampi, 6-0, 6-1; number five Chrissy Cerretani blanked Beth Childs, 6-0, 6-0; and number six Alana Marcu shut out Samara Porter, 6-0, 6-0 ... Playing a pro set in the doubles competition, Causway and Cerretani defeated Litvak and Fasenmyer, 8-4, at number one; Nassi and Shostakovsky bested Bonner and Piglicampi, 8-4, at number two; and Rose and Marcu eliminated Childs and Heather Hamm, 8-1.

April 21, 2000 Boston University, 5; Hofstra, 0 (14-5) The top-seeded Terrier women's tennis team continued to dominate the field at the America East Tournament, blanking fourth-seeded Hofstra, 5-0, at The National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. Because the Terriers won the first five singles matches that were contested, and had thus wrapped up the decision, the sixth singles and three doubles matches were not contested. Christina Causway, Chrissy Cerretani, and Alana Marcu have turned in the most dominant performances during the two matches. None of the three has lost a game in their two matches, as they have posted identical 6-0, 6-0 scores against Drexel and Hofstra.

In the win over Hofstra, number one Selin Nassi defeated Mihaela Stefan, 6-0, 6-2; number two Causway blanked Kristin Robert, 6-0, 6-0; number four Carrie Rose eliminated Hisae Shimaji, 6-0, 6-1; number five Cerretani shut out Keely Crawbuck, 6-0, 6-0; and number six Marcu defeated Jackie Fitzharris, 6-0, 6-0. Karina Shostakovsky was playing number three singles for the Terriers, but her match was listed as "unfinished" as the Terriers had the match won while Shostakovsky was still playing.

April 22, 2000 Boston University, 6; Delaware, 0 (15-5) The top-seeded Terrier women's tennis team won its seventh straight America East title with the shutout win over second-seeded Delaware.

With the win, the Terriers earned the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. Last season, the first in which the America East champion received the automatic berth, B.U. traveled to Pepperdine University. The Terriers dominated play in this year's league tournament, as no player lost a match or even lost a set.

For Delaware, the frustration of playing B.U. continued, as this was the seventh straight year the Blue Hens finished second to the Terriers for the league title. The first five years, B.U. edged Delaware when the tournament was based on total points and not played under the current team format. The last two years, B.U. defeated the Blue Hens in the championship match.

In this year's matchup, the Terriers' number-one seed Selin Nassi defeated Elly Giese, 6-2, 6-1; number-two seed Christina Causway eliminated Kristin Wasniewski, 6-0, 6-1; number-three Karina Shostakovsky downed Karen Greenstein, 6-1, 6-1; number-four seed Carrie Rose defeated Erin Kamen, 6-3, 6-0; number-five Chrissy Cerretani downed Jessica Wilkes, 6-2, 6-4; and number-six Alana Marcu eliminated Tracy Guerin, 6-3, 6-1. Since the match was decided after the singles matches, no doubles matches were played.

May 6 at Harvard, 5; Boston University, 1 (15-6) The Terriers closed out their season on a down note with this loss at Harvard. B.U.'s only point came at number four singles where Carrie Rose posted a 6-3, 6-1 win. However, the Terriers lost a three-set match at number five and a tough two-set match at number one. Had those matches gone the other way, B.U. might have come away with a win rather than this regular-season-ending loss. At number five, Alana Marcu won the first set, 6-3, and lost the second set, 6-7, in a tie-breaker. The third set ended in a 0-6 loss by Marcu. At number one, Selin Nassi dropped a heartbreaking 5-7, 5-7 decision. Christina Causway also put up a tough battle before she bowed, 5-7, 2-6 at number two. Number three Karina Shostakovsky and number six Ning Ham lost by identical scores, 1-6, 1-6 ... Since Harvard had already wrapped up the match after the singles, there were no doubles matches played.
