The Terrier women's soccer team scored a pair of unanswered second-period goals to rally from behind in a 2-1 win over at the University of Maine on Sunday (September 26th). The victory improved B.U.'s overall record to 5-3-0, and 2-0-0 in America East action.
Trailing 1-0 at the end of the first half, junior Mary-Beth Magner (Plymouth, MA) tied the game for the Terriers at the 56:30 mark, as she took a vertical lead pass from senior Alicia Waag (Plantation, FL).
Junior Deidre Enos (Milton, MA) scored the game- winner less than 20:00 minute later when she converted on a deflected shot by freshman Tiffany Chag (Bedford, NH) at the 75:36 mark.
The Terriers dominated play throughout the game, and, in particular, in the second half. During the final 45 minutes of action, they outshot the Black Bears, 15-0, and had 7 corner kicks to 0.
In the first half, B.U. also had the advantage in both shots, 11-5, and corner kicks, 4-0, yet still trailed.
"That's what happened to us a lot last year," said Terrier head coach Nancy Feldman. "We would dominate the statistics, and still trail in the scoring. So, I was a little worried at the end of the half."
The Terriers continued their dominant play in the second half, and it resulted in the victory.
With the team's 2-0 win over New Hampshire on Friday, it gave the Terriers a sweep of their two-game Northern New England trip.
"Winning two league games on the road was the way we wanted to start the season,"said Feldman, whose team was picked to finish second in America East in the pre-season poll of the coaches. "I am also happy with the balanced attack we showed over the weekend."
Four different players scored the goals, while senior Suzanne Finn (Dedham) had a pair of assists on Friday.
"Suzanne did a great job over the weekend,"said the coach. "We have had to move her from outside midfield to center midfield because Teresa Petruccelli is out for the year."
A junior from Flushing, NY, Petruccelli, a First Team All-Conference and All-Northeast Regional selection last year, will redshirt the season with a back problem.
