The Terrier women's tennis team closed out a successful ECAC Tournament appearance with a 5-2 win over Temple on October 14. With the win, B.U. finished the tournament with a 2-1 record as it beat Cornell, 5-2, and lost to Harvard, 5-2.
En route to the win over the Owls, the Terriers won four of the six singles and two of the three doubles matches. By virtue of winning the majority of the doubles matches, the Terriers earned the one team point.
In singles, freshman Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ), won at number three, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
"Lindsey has had a terrific fall season," said Terrier head coach Lesley Sheehan. "With her performance at the ECACs, her record is now 11-2. Her record does not surprise me, but I have been very impressed that she is just a freshman playing number three singles.
"She is a very poised, confident player and is handling the pressure of playing number three very well," the coach went on.
Freshman Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) won in straight sets at number four, 6-4, 6-0. Sophomore Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) won at number five, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0, and freshman Hannah Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) won at number six, 6-0, 6-3.
The only two losses at singles were at number one where junior Christina Causway dropped a hard-fought 6-7 (7-5 in the tiebreaker), 5-7 decision and at number two where senior Carrie Rose (Bloomfield Hills, MI) lost 1-6, 2-6.
In doubles play, Rose and deMendoza teamed up at number two to win 8-7 (7-5 in the tiebreaker) in the eight-game pro set, while Marcu and senior HsiaoNing Ham (Jersey City, NJ) won at number three, 8-3.
Causway and Dynof lost a tough 8-7 (7-5 in the tiebreaker) decision at number one doubles.
"This was an excellent win for us," said Sheehan. "Temple is a very good team, and it was great that we were able to bounce back so well after the loss to Harvard."
