Terriers Drop Heartbreaking Decision to Yale, 4-3

The women's tennis team closed out its fall dual-match season with a heartbreaking 4-3 decisioin to Yale on Oct. 21.
B.U. opened the match by winning two of the three doubles to earn one point. Junior Christina Causway (Wilson, NC) and freshman Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) teamed up to win at number one doubles, 8-7, while senior Carrie Rose (Bloomfield Hills, MI) and freshman Elena deMendoza (Madrid Spain) posted an 8-4 win at number two doubles.
The only doubles team to lose was sophomore Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) and senior Hsiao Ning Ham (Jersey City, NJ), who bowed at number three doubles, 8-2.
The singles matches were all very competitive. In fact, four of them went to three sets, and, unfortunately, the Terriers lost three of the four.
Marcu was the lone Terrier to win her three-set match, as she was victorious, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, at number four singles.
Rose at number two, Dynof at number three, and freshman Hannah Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) at number six all lost their three-set matches. Rose lost 4-6, 6-2, 3-6, Dynof was defeated, 3-6, 6-5, 5-6, and Bartell bowed, 6-1, 3-6, 3-6.
In addition to Marcu, Causway won her match at number one singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
"It was a real tough loss," said head coach Lesley Sheehan. "Our kids played hard right to the end."
With the ITA Tournament at William and Mary the lone event left on the Terriers' fall schedule, the team posted a 4-2 record in dual-match competition this season. They had wins over New Hampshire, UMass/Amherst, Cornell, and Temple, while their lone losses were to Harvard and Yale.
