May 11, 2000 | Softball

Boston University junior pitcher Robyn King (Ashby, MA) was named New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association Division I Co-Player of the Year and First Team All-Star on Wednesday, May 10.
She is joined on the 2000 All-Star Team by Terrier junior second baseman Kerry Herr (New Windor, NY), and senior centerfielder Nili Schnairsohn (Stoughton, MA).
King has recorded a 15-3 record with a 1.03 earned-run average and 161 strikeouts in 122.1 innings pitched. She is eighth in NCAA Division I with 9.2 strikeouts per seven innings and 35th in the nation in earned-run average. For the season, opponents are hitting only .124 against her.
She has been even more dominant in America East Conference games, tallying an 8-1 record with a 0.34 earned-run average and 94 strikeouts in 62.0 innings, with opponents batting a paltry .067 against her.
The junior fireballer, who was a First Team NEISCA selection in 1998 and 1999, tossed her best game of the season on April 29 versus Drexel, throwing the first perfect game of her career. She retired all 21 Drexel batters she faced with five strikeouts, and recorded eight groundouts and flyouts apiece on just 77 pitches. King also threw complete-game one-hitters versus Towson (3/25), Rhode Island (3/30), Vermont (4/1), and Hartford (4/8).
As a batter, King leads the team with a .346 batting average, which ranks fifth in the conference. She also has eight home runs, which are tied for the Terrier single-season record to accompany her 25 runs batted in.
Herr is second on the Terriers with a .298 batting average, while leading the team with 50 hits, 28 runs, 5 triples, 17 extra-base hits, and 168 at-bats. She has eight doubles, five triples, and four home runs to account for her 17 extra-base hits. Herr also has a team-best 15 multiple-hit games.
Schnairsohn is fifth on the team with a .283 average, third on the team with 41 hits and 20 runs, and first with 11 doubles. She helped the Terriers to the Bronze Bracket Championship at the University of North Carolina Triangle Classic, when she went 2-for-3 with a run batted in B.U.'s 3-0 win over Temple in the championship game on February 20.
The third-seeded Terriers, with a 33-17 overall record and a 19-7 mark in America East games, play No. 2 Delaware (35-12, 18-6) on Thursday, May 11 at 2:30 p.m. in the four-team, double-elimination America East Tournament in Hempstead, NY. Top-seeded Hofstra will square off versus No. 4 Towson at 12 noon.
