Below is a look at how each of the Boston University women's tennis players have fared this year.
Christina Causway Sophomore Wilson, NC
Compiled a 15-13 record playing at both number one and two singles ... Was 3-6 at number one and 12-7 at number two ... During the fall semester, she played all but one match at number one singles and was 2-4. Then, when the spring semester started, she opened at number one and was 1-2 at the Harvard Invitational. Moved down just one spot in the dual-match opener against Alabama-Birmingham, and that's where she remained the rest of the season ... As recently as March 19th, her singles record was 8-11. Since then, though, she has lost just twice in nine matches. The lone losses was a three-set decision against Boston College and a tough two-set loss in the regular-season finale at Harvard ... Was the team's most impressive performer at the America East Championships. In rolling to the title at number two singles, she lost just one game as she outscored her opponents, 36-1. Her only loss came in the fifth game of the second set in the title match. To that point, her won-loss record in the Championships was 34-0 ... Teamed with Karina Shostakovsky and Chrissy Cerretani to play doubles. Was 3-2 with Shostakovsky playing primarily at number two in the fall. Then, in the spring, playing number one with Cerretani, she was 2-5 for a combined total of 5-7 in doubles.
Chrissy Cerretani Senior Reading, MA
One of the senior co-captains ... Compiled a 17-8 record ... Saw most of her action at number five singles where she was 13-5 ... She won the America East title at number five, as she outscored her three opponents, 36-6. In her first two matches, she did not lose a game, outscoring her two opponents, 24-0 ... Was 1-0 at number three singles during the season, 1-3 at number four and 2-0 at number six ... As recently as March 6th, her singles record was 6-7, but then went on a torrid pace during which she was 11-1 in her last 12 matches. Only loss was at Boston College ... Played doubles with both Selin Nassi and Christina Causway. Was 1-3 playing number one with Nassi and all four matches were during the fall semester. Then, in the spring semester, playing number one with Causway, the two had a 2-5 record ... At B.U.'s annual end-of-the-year awards banquet earlier this month, she received the John B. Simpson Award. Presented to just one male and one female athlete, the award is for "outstanding leadership and enthusiasm." The award is voted on by all Boston University coaches.
Hsiao Ning Ham Junior Jersey City, NJ
Once again injuries forced her to miss most of the season. A year ago, she had an Achilles injury, while this past season it was foot problems ... In her limited action, she was 0-3 in singles and 2-5 in doubles. Playing at number eight singles, she was 0-1 in the fall, as she had to retire after the second set at the Brown Invitational in October, and then lost in three sets against Florida International in March ... In doubles play, she teamed with Andrea Nickel to post a 2-5 record. They were 1-2 in the fall and 1-3 during the spring season.
Alana Marcu Freshman Leonia, NJ
Only freshman to play regularly this year ... Finished the year with a 22-10 record as she led the team in wins and was second in winning percentage (.688). The only player with a better winning percentage was Carrie Rose, who had a .700 winning percentage based on her 21-9 record ... Played number six singles through most of the year, as she compiled a record of 16-7 at that position. She won the America East Conference singles title at number six as she combined to outscore her three opponents, 36-4. She was 6-0, 6-0 in her first two matches and then posted a 6-3, 6-1 straight set victory in the title match ... Was 1-1 at number four and 2-2 at number five ... Compiled an 8-3 record during the fall and 14-7 in the spring ... Was 11-2 in her last 13 singles matches in the spring. Lone losses were a 6-2, 6-2 defeat at Rutgers on April 7th and a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7, 0-6 defeat in the regular-season finale vs. Harvard. Was 5-1 in her last six singles matchesshe was 5-0 at number six and 0-1 at number five ... Teamed with classmate Andrea Nickel and Carrie Rose to play doubles. Was 1-2 with Nickel as their only appearance was in the Syracuse Invitational in September. With Rose, playing primarily at number three doubles, she was 3-7.
Selin Nassi Senior Fort Lauderdale, FL
One of the three senior co-captains of the team ... Was voted team MVP ... Compiled a 19-13 record ... Saw most of her action at number one singles where she was 14-8, while she was 5-5 at number two ... Had a 5-6 record in the fall playing both numbers one and two. Then, playing number one singles virtually the entire spring season, she was 14-7 ... Took over the number one spot permanently in the dual-match spring opener against Alabama-Birmingham. At that time, her cumulative singles record was 7-7 ... Was 5-2 in her last six matches. Lost a three-set decision to Boston College and a 5-7, 5-7 defeat in the regular-season finale vs. Harvard ... She was voted the Most Outstanding Player at the America East Championships, as she won the number one singles title. In her three matches, she outscored her opponents, 36-8 ... Played doubles with both Chrissy Cerretani and Karina Shostakovsky. Was 1-3 with Cerretani playing at number one during the fall. Then, in the spring, she teamed with Shostakovsky to play at number two doubles, and they were 2-4 ... Was born in Istanbul, Turkey.
Andrea Nickel Freshman Vancouver, BC
Along with Alana Marcu, she is the only freshman on this year's roster ... Compiled a 3-5 record. Was 1-0 at number six singles and 2-5 playing at number seven ... Her match at number six singles was in the Terriers' season opener on September 24th. Playing against New Hampshire, she posted a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 victory ... Played four matches at number seven singles during the spring season. Three of the matches came at the Harvard Invitational in February, while the other was against Florida International in March ... Played doubles with both Marcu and Ning Ham. Was 1-2 with Marcu at the Syracuse Invitational and 2-5 with Ham. They were 1-2 during the fall season and 1-3 during the spring.
Carrie Rose Junior Bloomfield Hills, MI
Finished the year with a 21-9 record ... Was second on the team in wins but led the team in winning percentage with a .700. Only player with more wins during the season was Alana Marcu, who had 22 ... Alternated between numbers three and four singles. Was 7-6 at number three and 13-3 at number four ... She won the America East singles title at number four singles without losing a set. In her three matches, she lost a total of just five games as she defeated her three opponents by a combined score of 36-5 ... Had a strong spring season compiling a 15-5 record after going 6-4 in the fall ... Won her last five singles matches including a straight-set victory over Harvard as she was the lone Terrier to win a point ... Was 8-2 in her last 10 matches. Only losses were against Rutgers and West Virginia and both those matches went three sets ... Teamed with Alanu Marcu to form the Terriers' number three doubles tandem, and they were 3-7.
Karina Shostakovsky Senior Atlanta, Georgia
One of the three senior co-captains on the team ... Finished the year with a 19-9 record as she was third on the team in both wins and winning percentage. Only players ahead of her in wins were Alana Marcu (22) and Carrie Rose (21), while Rose (.700) and Marcu (.688) also had better winning percentages ... Last season, she had the most wins in singles play of any of the Terriers, as she was 23-5. Thus, her record the past two years was 42-14 for a .750 winning percentage ... Saw most of her action this past season at numbers three through five although she did play one match at number two singles ... Was 10-6 at number three ... She won the America East Conference singles title at number three without losing a set ... She was 4-1 at number four singles, 3-2 at number five and 1-0 at number two ... In the fall, she was 7-1 as her only loss came at the Brown Invitational. She did not finish the match as an injury forced her to retire in the first set ... She was 9-5 during the spring season ... She ended the season on a strong note with a 5-2 record in her last six matches. Only losses were a 2-6, 3-6 decision against Boston College and 1-6, 1-6 in the regular-season finale vs. Harvard ... Teamed with Selin Nassi and Christina Causway in doubles. Played number two doubles with Nassi and was 2-4, while she and Causway posted a 3-2 mark at both number one and two doubles ... Was born in St. Petersburg, Russia.
