Amy Parker Named GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America

BOSTON, MASS. (June 1) - Terrier senior first baseman Amy Parker, of Newburgh, NY, has been voted to the 2000 GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team Softball Team for the University Division.
A panel of the nation's Sports information Directors voted on the team. To qualify for the national team, a student-athlete must first be selected to the District team, and Parker was named to the District 1 team in early May.
This was the latest academic honor for Parker, who received her undergraduate degree in physical therapy on May 21st with a 3.94 average. On May 1st, she received the Gretchen Schuyler Award as the top female student-athlete at Boston University. She was a Dean's List student all eight semesters of her college career and was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athlete twice.
During the Terriers' 2000 season, Parker enjoyed her finest year statistically. She played in 52 of the team's 55 games, and started 50 of them. She finished with a .276 batting average, which ranked fifth among the regulars. Of her 40 hits, she had seven doubles and a triple. In addition, she had 12 RBI and scored 17 runs. In the field, she tied for second on the team with a .985 fielding percentage. She committed just five errors while being credited with 321 putouts and nine assists.
As a team, the Terriers finished the year with a 36-19 record. In the America East tournament, they advanced to the championship game where they lost to Hofstra, 1-0.
A 1996 graduate of Valley Central H.S., Parker was a four-time All-Orange County selection, a member of the National Honor Society, and valedictorian of her senior class.
